NIGERIA: CAPITAL PUNISHMENT FOR KIDNAPPERS IN ABIA
January 9, 2009: the State House of Assembly in Abia, Nigeria, acted against the rising tide of kidnapping in the state by making it a capital crime. According to newspaper reports, the Assembly amended Law 2 of the state, which prescribed 10 years imprisonment, and replaced it with a stiffer penalty.
