Kuwait’s Court of Appeals has upheld the death sentence issued earlier by a lower court against an Egyptian man after he was found guilty of premeditated murder of his Kuwaiti sponsor, Gulf News reported on 28 December 2021.
The Egyptian man was earlier sentenced to death by hanging for killing his sponsor on 31 December 2020, following a financial dispute regarding renewing his residency visa.
On the day of the crime, the Operations Room at the Ministry of Interior received a report that the victim’s body had been found in a pool of blood in a building courtyard in Khaitan area of Farwaniya Governorate.
The forensic report found traces of deep and fatal stab wounds.
Police detectives investigated the watchman of the building where the victim’s body was found. He said the victim left the building with an expatriate man that he had never seen before. Police identified the murdered after checking the victim’s mobile phone.
During the public prosecution investigation, the convicted man admitted to having stabbed the victim after he refused to renew his residency visa.

19 December 2021 :

The Criminal Department of the High Court of Kuwait, headed by Counselor Abdullah Al-Othman, sentenced to death an Ethiopian woman who stabbed her Indian colleague with a knife on the first day of last Ramadan in the Abdullah Al-Mubarak area, Emaratalyoum Newspaper reported on 17 December 2021.
The Ethiopian expatriate stabbed to death her colleague, an Indian, while they were working together in a Kuwaiti family home.
The killer admitted to the Kuwaiti security services that she had stabbed the victim several times because of a dispute over the distribution of work tasks in the kitchen, between washing dishes or cleaning the floor.

04 November 2021 :

Kuwait’s Court of Appeals on 2 November 2021 upgraded the sentence of a woman, who killed her husband last year, from life in prison to the death penalty after she was convicted of premeditated murder, local media reported.
The woman killed her husband in their apartment in the Al Masayel area of Kuwait in April last year. 
According to court papers, the convict confessed she hit her husband over the head with a vase and a hammer following a heated brawl, before wrapping his body with a carpet and fleeing the crime scene.
The convicted woman then hid in a livestock pen in Kabd area owned by her lover.
During the court hearing, the Public Prosecution demanded the death penalty against the woman for murdering her husband deliberately.
In its deliberations, the court said the woman committed 1st-degree murder and did not deserve clemency.

10 July 2021 :

A Kuwaiti court on 6 July 2021 sentenced a man to death after convicting him of the kidnap and murder of a mother of two, a crime that shocked the emirate.
The brutal killing of Farah Hamzah Akbar, 32, whose body was dumped outside a hospital on April 20 after she was snatched in broad daylight, sparked protests and calls for justice.
“The verdict hit the nail on the head, and we hope it is backed and implemented so the family can rest,” the Akbar family lawyer, Abdulmohsen al-Qattan, told AFP.
He added that the case will now be referred to the court of appeal for review.
The man, who had persisted in stalking Akbar despite several complaints to authorities, dragged her from a car during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.
Akbar had previously filed two harassment complaints against the man who had proposed to her although she was already married. He had been arrested but was released on bail.
The interior ministry said at the time of the murder that Akbar had been stabbed in the chest.
The attacker was arrested shortly afterward and confessed to the crime, sparking calls for his execution.
After the killing, some 200 people, including men, rallied to mourn the victim and demand tougher penalties for violence against women.
Kuwaiti women are pushing the boundaries of their society, considered one of the most open in the Gulf. A law against harassment exists but discussions about gender-based violence remain taboo.
“Women in Kuwait demand protection from harassment, abuse, and murder by providing them with shelters and laws that protect them,” Lulwa Saleh al-Mulla, head of the Kuwaiti Women’s Cultural and Social Society, told AFP following the verdict.
“Farah’s (killing) was the straw that broke the camel’s back. Enough is enough.”
