14 November 2021 :

A Saudi court overturned a conviction on a death penalty charge for a young man following what rights groups called a "grossly unfair trial" for crimes committed when he was a minor, his family said on 10 November 2021.
"The Supreme Court of Saudi Arabia overturned the judgment on behalf of my youngest son, Abdullah al-Huwaiti," his mother wrote on Twitter, thanking everyone who stood by her.
Saudi law stipulates that there must now be a retrial in his case, the anti-death penalty charity Reprieve said.
Although he is no longer at risk of imminent execution, Huwaiti could still be sentenced to death at a later stage.
The government's media office did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Huwaiti was arrested when he was 14 years old and sentenced to death three years later on murder and armed robbery charges along with five other defendants, in a case closely monitored by rights groups. 
Human Rights Watch and Reprieve have said all six defendants in his case told the court at trial that the interrogators coerced their confessions through torture or the threat of it.
In 2020, Saudi authorities scrapped the death penalty for juveniles and said they would apply this retroactively.
The kingdom's state-backed Human Rights Commission later clarified that the ban only applied to a lesser category of offense under Islamic law known as "ta'zeer." 
This means that judges can still sentence child offenders to death under the other two categories, according to Saudi Arabia's interpretation of sharia: "houdoud", or serious crimes that carry a prescribed punishment, including terrorism, and "qisas", or retribution, usually for murder.
Huwaiti was convicted on a "houdoud" charge.
"We remain concerned for Abdullah Al-Howaiti's life, despite the Supreme Court's ruling," said Taha al-Hajji, a Saudi lawyer with the European Saudi Organisation for Human Rights.

06 July 2021 :

Saudi Arabia's former commander in charge of the coalition war in Yemen has been sentenced to death following a military trial, according to a 27 June 2021 report by the Washington DC-based Institute for Gulf Affairs. The report cited one of his relatives, who spoke on condition of anonymity.
Fahd Bin Turki Bin Abdulaziz, a senior Saudi prince, and nephew of King Salman was apparently sentenced to death for treason after being accused of attempting a coup to oust the king and his son, Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman. The source is said to have revealed text messages he received from a former senior official in Riyadh, confirming the charges and the death sentence.
In September last year, it was reported that Bin Turki was sacked from his position along with his son, Prince Abdulaziz Bin Fahd, who was a deputy governor of Al-Jawf region. Both were arrested during an investigation into corruption. At the time, a prominent Saudi whistle-blower, known online as Mujtahidd, claimed that the arrests were in fact a prelude to a coup against MBS.
The Institute also said that it had obtained "dozens of Saudi secret documents detailing the transfer of over 100 housing plots in Riyadh to the four children of Fahd Bin Turki."
The leaked documents from the Saudi Ministry of Justice indicate that nearly one square kilometre of land was given to the four children of Bin Turki in 2014 during the reign of their grandfather, the late King Abdullah.
The source in the report also added that the late king's daughter, Abeer, has been in exile in Scotland since before the arrest of her husband Fahd Bin Turki and son last year. The death sentence is an attempt to recapture the money, the source claimed. Princess Abeer, it is said, controls billions of dollars in various holdings around the world.

17 June 2021 :

Saudi Arabia on 15 June 2021 executed a young man who was convicted on charges stemming from his alleged participation in an anti-government rebellion by minority Shiites. A leading rights group said his trial, however, was “deeply flawed.”
It was unclear whether Mustafa bin Hashim bin Isa al-Darwish, 26, was executed for crimes committed as a minor, according to Amnesty International. The rights group said he was detained in 2015 for alleged participation in riots between 2011 and 2012. The official charge sheet does not specify the dates his alleged crimes took place, meaning he could have been 17 at the time, or just turned 18.
The government maintains al-Darwish was convicted and executed for crimes committed above the age of 19, though no specific dates for his alleged crimes have been given.
Last year, the kingdom halted its practice of executing people for crimes committed as a minor.
The Interior Ministry said in a statement he was executed after being found guilty of participating in the formation of an armed terrorist cell to monitor and target to kill police officers, attempting to kill police officers, shooting at police patrols and making Molotov cocktails to target police.
Other charges included allegations al-Darwish participated in armed rebellion against the ruler and provoking chaos and sectarian strife. The crimes allegedly transpired in the Eastern Province, where most Saudi oil is concentrated and home to a significant indigenous Shiite population. The execution was carried out in Dammam, the province's administrative capital.
At the height of Arab Spring uprisings across the region, the kingdom experienced unrest among Saudi Shiite youth who took to the Eastern Province's impoverished streets of Qatif. They demanded jobs, better opportunities and an end to discrimination by the kingdom's ultraconservative state-backed Sunni institutions and clerics.
Amnesty International said al-Darwish, who was arrested when he was 20, was placed in solitary confinement, held incommunicado for six months and denied access to a lawyer until the beginning of his trial two years later by the Specialized Criminal Court in Riyadh, established to try terrorism cases.
The Supreme Court upheld al-Darwish's death sentence.
Amnesty International said his case was then referred to the Presidency of State Security, which is overseen directly by the royal court and over which Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman wields immense power. The Saudi monarch, King Salman, ratifies executions, most of which are carried out by beheading.

12 April 2021 :

Saudi Arabia executed three soldiers on 10 April 2021 it accused of committing “high treason,” without elaborating on which enemy the kingdom believed the men aided.
The state-run Saudi Press Agency identified the men as soldiers working in the Defense Ministry.
It did not elaborate on how the men aided the kingdom's enemies. 
Saudi Arabia is fighting Yemen's Iranian-backed Houthi rebels. 
The kingdom also views Iran as a regional archrival.
The kingdom said the three men were convicted in court and a later royal order served as a death warrant.

27 December 2021 :

Saudi Arabia on 27 December 2021 executed a Yemeni man accused of plotting a suicide attack in the kingdom and of links to the Islamic State jihadist group, the interior ministry said.
Saudi Arabia has been the target of a series of deadly IS shooting and bombings since late 2014.
"Mohammed al-Saddam, a Yemeni national, sought to target civilian gatherings at a public facility under the instructions of the Daesh terrorist organisation," the interior ministry said in a statement referring to IS by its Arabic acronym. "The death sentence was carried on 27 December in the city of Riyadh."
It said the man had "pledged allegiance to IS" and was planning a "suicide attack using an explosive belt", without elaborating on the case or when the Yemeni was arrested. The Saudi authorities could not immediately be reached for comment.

26 September 2021 :

The Saudi Interior Ministry announced on 29 July 2021 that it had carried out the death penalty against a member of the ISIS terror group in Jazan city.
In a statement, it identified the individual as Saudi national Mohammed bin Ibrahim bin Ali al-Rifai. 
It said he had adopted takfiri ideology, which violates Islamic values.
He had consequently declared his allegiance to ISIS and its terrorist practices and sought to fulfill the group’s agenda.
He had at one point attacked a bank in Jazan city, opening fire at the people inside, leaving two dead and two wounded. 
Others were held hostage at the scene.
The perpetrator resisted arrest and opened fire at the security forces.
He was eventually arrested and charged. He was referred to the specialized court where he was convicted and sentenced to death.

08 September 2021 :

A Saudi man was executed in Dammam on 6 September 2021 on charges of terrorism and weapons smuggling, the interior ministry said.
The man was found guilty of belonging to a terrorist cell and targeting security personnel by shooting at them, it said in a statement.
He was also charged "with smuggling weapons in and out of the country and of being a member of a terrorist cell with the aim of destabilising national security", the ministry said.
Last month, Amnesty International said at least 40 people were executed between January and July in Saudi Arabia, more than for the whole of 2020.

11 March 2021 :

A preliminary death sentence was issued on 11 March 2021 in Saudi Arabia against five members of a cell affiliated with the terrorist group Daesh.
The trial of the cell’s members, who numbered 45 in total, began after other members were killed in armed confrontations with security forces.
The accused were found to be linked to terrorist operations in the Kingdom, including the assassination of Brig. Gen. Kitab Al-Otaibi, investigations director of the Al-Quwaiiyah governorate, west of Riyadh in April 2016.
The brigadier-general was followed on his way to work and shot dead when he reached Al-Arja police station in Al-Dawadimi province. Daesh later claimed responsibly for the attack.
The accused were also involved in the bombing of three mosques; the first targeted the Special Emergency Forces mosque in Abha in Aug. 2015 and resulted in the killing of 15 people including 11 security forces members and four Bangladeshi workers.
The second attack targeted the second largest mosque for the Ismaili community in the region, Najran’s Al-Mashhad mosque, in Oct. 2015, resulting in the killing of two people and injuring 27 others.
The third attack was on Al-Ridha Mosque in Al-Ahsa in Jan. 2016, for its alleged links to the Shiite community. The bombing killed five people and injured 36 others, including three members of the security forces.

16 November 2021 :

Saudi authorities have released Adbullah al-Zaher, a young man who had been sentenced to death for "crimes" he allegedly committed as a child, human rights activists announced on 14 November 2021.
Al-Zaher was among a dozen young men who have been convicted by the Saudi judiciary for crimes they allegedly committed during childhood. He is the second to be released by Saudi authorities after Ali al-Nimr, who was arrested in 2012 at the age of sixteen for taking part in street protests. 
"Those still detained for alleged crimes committed as children include Daoud al-Marhoun, Abdullah al-Huwaiti, Ahmad al-Faraj, Ali al-Batti, Mohamed al-Nimr, Ali al-Faraj, Mohammed al-Faraj, Ali al-Mabyook, Sajjad al-Yasin, & Yousef al-Manasif," Human Rights Watch researched Hiba Zayadin wrote on Twitter. "Some may still face the death penalty."
Like Iran, Saudi Arabia allows children to be tried, sentenced to death and executed for offences committed before adulthood.
Hope for al-Zaher and al-Nimr first came in 2018 with a new law prohibiting the death penalty for child offenders, although the law was only applied in around 20% of cases where children were convicted.
A 2020 decree allowed the law to be applied retroactively, opening the way to remove the death sentence looming over al-Zaher and others who stood trial before 2018. 
On 8 February, the Saudi Human Rights Commission announced that the death sentence against several of these prisoners, including al-Zaher and al-Nimr, had been commuted to 10-year prison terms. The other prisoners are expected to be released once they complete their term in jail.
Many prisoners were sentenced as children on the basis of forced confessions.

28 October 2021 :

A young Saudi man was released from prison on 27 October 2021 after spending nearly a decade behind bars in a case that drew international scrutiny because until recently he’d been facing a possible death sentence for protest-related crimes committed as a minor.
Ali al-Nimr’s case also drew attention because his uncle was influential Saudi Shiite cleric Nimr al-Nimr, who was executed in January 2016 in a mass execution of 47 people in the kingdom. He was an outspoken government critic and a key leader of Shiite protests in eastern Saudi Arabia in 2011 demanding greater rights in the majority Sunni nation and fair treatment.
Ali al-Nimr appears to have been spared a similar fate after his death sentence was commuted in February following a royal decree issued last year that ordered an end to the death penalty for crimes committed by minors. The royal decree orders prosecutors to review cases and drop punishments for those who’ve already served the maximum 10 years for crimes committed under the age of 18, although terrorism-related crimes can technically be tried differently.
Al-Nimr had been convicted on charges related to his participation as a minor in Shiite-led protests. He was arrested in 2012 at the age of 16.
Human Rights Watch said his charges included vague accusations of attacking security forces, as well as “breaking allegiance with the ruler” and “repeating some chants against the state.” He was sentenced to death by the Specialized Criminal Court in Riyadh, which handles terrorism trials.
In 2014, the court had sentenced al-Nimr to death, as well two others arrested while minors, Dawood al-Marhoun and Abdullah al-Zaher. All three youth from Saudi Arabia’s Shiite minority had their death sentences commuted at the same time earlier this year.
The three young men were instead ordered to serve 10 years in prison, with credit for time already served.
Al-Nimr’s father Mohammed confirmed his son’s apparent early release on Twitter. A video of a bearded al-Nimr dressed in all white hugging a woman who appears to be his mother upon arrival home circulated widely on social media 27 October.
Al-Nimr’s father expressed gratitude to God and the family’s supporters, as well as to the king and crown prince in a tweet that included a photo of the two royals.
“Gratitude after God goes to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques for his historic decision in April 2020, which ruled to stop issuing and implementing death sentences against minors,” he wrote. “May God reward him and the crown prince.”

13 February 2021 :

Saudi Arabia’s Tabuk Criminal Court sentenced on 11 February 2021 Egyptian engineer Ali Abul-Qasim to 25 years in prison after cancelling a death penalty over his conviction in a drug trafficking case.
The Saudi sentence ends a five-year-long ordeal for Abul-Qasim who was sentenced to death in 2017 by a lower court in the kingdom.
Abul-Qasim, who hails from Aswan governorate, had worked in Saudi Arabia since 2007.
He was convicted in 2017 on charges of importing agricultural equipment from Egypt in 2016 that contained narcotic tablets while working for a contracting company affiliated with the Saudi customs authority.
A Cairo Criminal Court issued a life sentence -- 20 years in jail as per the Egyptian law -- against three others in the same case, on charges of involvement in drug trafficking and smuggling narcotics to Abul-Qasim. The court acquitted three others.
The Egyptian prosecution shared with the Saudi authorities the documents on the case against the drug smugglers in Egypt who had sent a shipment of narcotic pills to the Egyptian engineer in Saudi Arabia.
The Egyptian authorities intensely lobbied their Saudi counterparts to commute the death penalty for Abul-Qasim. 

08 February 2021 :

Three young Saudi men who faced death sentences for acts they were accused of committing as minors have been handed a 10-year prison sentence instead, the Saudi Human Rights Commission said on 7 February 2021.
Ali al-Nimr, Dawood al-Marhoun and Abdullah al-Zaher, youth from Saudi Arabia’s Shiite minority, were detained separately on charges stemming from their participation in anti-government Shiite protests over discrimination that rocked the country’s eastern province in 2011-2012.
Al-Nimr, the nephew of prominent opposition cleric Shiekh Nimr al-Nimr, whose execution sparked Shiite demonstrations from Bahrain to Pakistan, was arrested in 2012 at age 17, according to Human Rights Watch. He was sentenced to death by the Specialized Criminal Court in Riyadh, which handles terrorism trials.
Al-Marhoun was 17 and al-Zaher was 15 when they were swept up in the government’s crackdown on Shiite protests, and denied access to lawyers during their protracted pre-trial detention, the New York-based watchdog previously reported.
The court would credit time served, Saudi Arabia’s Human Rights Commission announced, setting the release date of all three men for 2022.
Al-Nimr’s father Mohammed welcomed the news on Twitter, describing the change in sentence as a direct order from King Salman. The government’s communications office did not respond to a request for comment.

05 December 2021 :

Saudi authorities on 2 December 2021 executed two expatriates – a Pakistani and an Egyptian—convicted of fatally stabbing two compatriots in two different cases, the Interior Ministry said.
The Pakistani convict, identified as Sayyed Yassir, had been found guilty of stabbing to death a compatriot due to a dispute between them.
In another murder case, Sayyed Al Rasheedi, an Egyptian national, was also convicted of murdering a compatriot by inflicting knife wounds on him.
Both defendants were arrested and handed down death sentences. The rulings were upheld by the appeals and supreme courts and approved by royal orders, the ministry added in a statement.
Both convicts were executed in Riyadh, the ministry added without saying when the two murders happened.

15 November 2021 :

Saudi authorities on 11 November 2021 executed a citizen after he was convicted of brutally beating and burning his wife to death.
The convict, identified as Udah bin Mohammed, was later arrested and a court sentenced him to death, the Interior Ministry said.
The ruling was upheld by the appeals and supreme courts and approved by a royal order and family of the victim, the ministry added in a statement.
The convict was executed in the governorate of Qunfudh in the Mecca region.
The cause of the murder or its date was not given.

03 November 2021 :

Saudi Arabia on 1st November 2021 executed a man convicted of trying to shoot dead security forces and weapons charges, with alleged links to figures accused of terrorist activities, state media reported.
He was executed in Dammam in the Eastern Province, which has seen bouts of unrest since 2011 when mostly Muslim Shia protesters emboldened by the Arab Spring uprisings took to the streets.
The demonstrators demanded an end to what they called discrimination by the Sunni-dominated government, a charge Riyadh denies.
The Saudi man who was executed "took part in two shooting operations against security forces with an intent to kill" and "in dealing and possessing weapons," the interior ministry said.
He was "linked to people wanted for terrorism-related activities", the ministry added in its statement carried by the official Saudi Press Agency.
Human rights group Amnesty International said in August that at least 40 people were executed between January and July in Saudi Arabia, more than for the whole of 2020.
More than 60 people have been executed this year in the kingdom, according to an AFP tally based on official statements.

21 September 2021 :

An Egyptian man was executed on 15 September 2021 in Saudi Arabia for killing a woman and burning her body in Medina.
Egyptian Issam Mohammed Helal was convicted of strangling illegal expatriate resident Aisha Mustafa Mohammed Al Bernawi to death and burning her body in Medina to conceal his crime, the Saudi Ministry of Interior said in a statement.
The perpetrator was arrested by security authorities. He confessed to the crime before courts.
The death sentence was upheld by the Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court. A royal order was also issued to implement the ruling. The perpetrator was executed in the Medina prison.

30 March 2021 :

A court in Saudi Arabia on 24 March 2021 sentenced Umar al-Shammeri, a Saudi Arabian citizen, to death for killing Bangladeshi immigrant Sagar Patwari in Dammam of the country 15 years ago.
In June 2006, Saudi citizen Umar Al Shammeri had an altercation with Bangladeshi immigrant Sagar Patwari at a petrol pump on Abu Hadaria Road in Dammam, Saudi Arabia. At one point, Umar fired a pistol and Sagar was killed on the spot, reports BSS citing a press release issued by Saudi Arabian embassy in Dhaka.
Umar fled the scene after the shooting. After a long investigation, local law enforcement body detained Umar al-Shammeri in 2018.
Bangladesh embassy representatives have so far participated in 12 hearings in the Dammam Criminal Court seeking the death sentence for the accused on behalf of the heirs of the deceased, added the release.
On 24 March the court sentenced the accused to death by beheading after the charges against him were proved.
The deceased Sagar Patwari was the son of Haji Sona Miah of Nagirpar village in Barura upazila of Comilla district.

16 February 2021 :

A criminal court in Riyadh on 14 February 2021 handed a Saudi national the death penalty for the murder of a Bangladeshi domestic worker.
Abiron Begum Ansar, a 40-year-old domestic worker, was found dead in Riyadh in March 2019 after being beaten to death by her employers. 
Her family said Ansar's body was "unrecognisable" when it was repatriated back to Bangladesh seven months later.  
The Riyadh Criminal Court found Ayesha al-Jazani guilty of Ansar's murder and gave her the death penalty after it had been requested by the Ansar's family. 
It also found Jazani's husband, Bassem Salem, guilty of tampering with the crime scene, sending Ansar to work for other people and not paying for her medical care. He was given a 38-month prison sentence and a 50,000 Saudi riyal fine.
Walid Basem Salem, Jazani's son, was given a seven-month sentence inside a juvenile detention facility. 
During a hearing in January, Ansar's family had requested the death penalty for Jazani instead of financial compensation. 
Documents seen by Middle East Eye show that the family asked the Bangladeshi embassy in Riyadh to request the death penalty as part of the qisas legal rules in Saudi Arabia. 

08 June 2021 :

The relatives of two men awaiting execution in Saudi Arabia on 7 June 2021 asked British Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab to press for their release while he visits the kingdom.
On 3 June a Saudi court upheld the death sentence of Mustafa al-Darwish, who was detained as a child in 2015 for allegedly participating in anti-government riots in the Shia majority Eastern Province.
According to court documents, Darwish was subjected to prolonged pre-trial detention, torture and a grossly unfair trial.
Darwish's relatives said on 7 June that there was an "immediate risk" of his death sentence being carried out.
"We received the tragic news that the Supreme Court has upheld the death sentence on 3 June after desperately trying to obtain information for months," they said, speaking through the human rights organisation Reprieve, as quoted by The Times on 7 June.
"Courage from Mr Raab in raising Mustafa's case could ensure that his execution does not go ahead."
Raab met with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman on 7 June, where he said the two discussed "shared interests including trade, Iran and climate change".
It was not mentioned whether the foreign secretary brought up the issue of minors facing the death penalty.
The second man at risk of the death penalty is Abdullah al-Huwaiti, who was convicted on murder and armed robbery charges by a criminal court in October 2019 when he was 17, along with five other defendants.
Huwaiti says he was forced to confess to the alleged crimes under torture and his family claim that CCTV evidence shows he was not at the scene.
UN human rights experts have also expressed "deep concern" over Huwaiti's status on death row. They said he was convicted of a "crime allegedly committed when he was a minor and is now facing execution following a trial marred by torture allegations".
Last April, Saudi King Salman issued a royal decree ending death sentences for crimes committed as a minor, instead making the maximum sentence 10 years in a juvenile detention facility.
Still, rights groups have raised concerns about its implementation and previously warned that several youths still face the death penalty.

31 May 2021 :

A convicted killer was “pardoned” by the Saudi father of his victim on 24 May 2021 morning, minutes before he was due to be executed.
Awad Suleiman Al-Amrani from Tabuk in northwestern Saudi Arabia, whose son was killed in a brawl four years ago, stipulated that neither the killer nor his family should celebrate the forgiveness. He also said that the family should not attempt to raise money from donors or attend any events that might be organized as a result of the waiver.
He did not demand any blood money in compensation for his son’s death, and so the killer will be released.
As news of the pardon spread on social media, Al-Amrani was praised for his forgiving nature. In appreciation of his “noble” gesture, some Twitter users posted Qur’anic verse 40 of surah Al-Shura, which says: “The recompense for an injury is an injury equal thereto (in degree): But if a person forgives and makes reconciliation, his reward is due from Allah: For (Allah) loveth not those who do wrong.”
Others said that Al-Amrani’s decision was in keeping with the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad, who said: “Whosoever introduces a good practice in Islam, there is for him its reward and the reward of those who act upon it after him without anything being diminished from their rewards.”
In a message posted on Twitter, Saudi citizen Bandar Al-Atwi wrote: “The father has gained a promise from the Almighty to reward him for his noble act.” Quoting verse 32 of surah Al-Maidah, he added: “If anyone saved a life, it would be as if he saved the life of the whole people.”
Waleed Khaled Darraj, a lawyer in Jeddah, told Arab News that the freed man and his family must adhere to the demands and conditions set by the victim’s father.
“If written and approved by the court, all that the father has requested should be followed, otherwise the waiver becomes invalid and the victim’s family has the right to demand beheading,” he said.
He said that while executions are permitted under Shariah as a deterrent to safeguard lives and preserve the human soul, Islam also urges its followers to forgive whenever possible.
“Islam also teaches its followers to show tolerance,” said Darraj. “It also instructs them to avoid anger, which in many cases leads to unwanted consequences.
“When such a crime happens, beheading the killer, demanding blood money is the right of the victim’s family. However, some noble people just forgive without requesting a penny. These people seek what Allah has promised the forgivers.”
In some cases in the Gulf region, the families of murder victims have asked for millions of riyals in return for forgiving the killers.

26 May 2021 :

Saudi Arabia’s Supreme Court on 24 May 2021 upheld the verdict issued by a criminal court in Dammam in September 2020, awarding the death penalty to a Saudi woman known in the media as the “Dammam kidnapper,” and jail terms for three other defendants, local media reported.
The woman, the main defendant, was convicted of kidnapping newborns from Dammam three decades ago, illegal adoption, forgery and establishing an illegal relationship. The court also sentenced the second defendant to one and a half years in prison and a SR20,000 fine, while the third defendant, a Yemeni man, was jailed for 25-and-a-half years. The court also handed one-year imprisonment and imposed a SR5,000 fine on the fourth defendant.
The criminal court found the Saudi woman, who had kidnapped two baby boys from a Dammam hospital in the 1990s, guilty.
She illegally raised the abducted children as her own and reportedly told them they were born out of wedlock. Police investigations into the babies’ kidnapping failed to yield results until suspicions about the identity of the two boys, who are now in their twenties, rose after she tried to apply for their ID cards.
The mystery of the missing of the two babies was unravelled two years ago, when the woman submitted applications to obtain identification documents for the two men.
Subsequently, the authorities conducted medical and technical examinations, and the results proved no biological relationship between the woman and the young men and instead proved their lineage to other Saudi families, who had reported the abduction of their children.
The Public Prosecution spokesman said that their investigation team carried out 247 procedures in the case, and these included 21 investigation sessions with 21 defendants and witnesses, and filed charges against defendants, including four convicts, while the fifth defendant is on the run outside the Kingdom.
The Public Prosecution sought the help of Interpol to bring back the culprit.

Pakistan on 10 May 2021 said that 1,100 of its nationals imprisoned in Saudi Arabia will return to the country soon after agreements were reached with Riyadh on the release of inmates during Prime Minister Imran Khan’s visit to the Kingdom over the weekend.
Pakistan’s interior minister Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed told reporters in Islamabad that Saudi Arabia was even ready for the return of Pakistanis imprisoned for serious crimes as many of the prisoners have already served a large part of their sentence.
The minister said that with an aid of Rs 1 billion, hundreds of more prisoners who have to pay small fines can be released from Saudi jails. “The cases of the ones convicted for serious crimes, will be dealt with separately,” he said, adding that the whole process of return of prisoners has been completed.
At least 30 Pakistanis imprisoned for murder and drug offences will not be released as they have been sentenced to death, the minister said.
Pakistan and Saudi Arabia had signed an agreement on the transfer of convicted prisoners during PM Khan’s three-day visit to Saudi Arabia. The two countries had also inked a memorandum of understanding on the establishment of the Saudi-Pakistan Supreme Coordination Council (SPSCC), that would address the treatment of criminals and crime.
Last year, the Saudi government had released 2,080 Pakistani prisoners as part of an agreement with the Imran Khan government. These prisoners were involved in crimes like forgery, theft, bribery and illegal bordering crossing.

Anti-death penalty group Reprieve said on 9 April 2021 that 80% of those sentenced to death for crimes in Saudi Arabia while minors still face execution despite reforms announced in 2020.
Saudi authorities said last year they would stop sentencing to death any individuals who committed crimes while minors and would apply this retroactively.
However, the March 2020 royal decree announcing this was not reported by state media or published in the official gazette as would be normal practice. Human rights groups and western lawmakers have raised concerns about its implementation.
Asked whether the decree applied to all types of crimes, the state-backed Human Rights Commission told Reuters in February the ban only applied to a lesser category of offence under Islamic law known as "ta'zeer."
This would mean judges can therefore still sentence child offenders to death under the other two categories, according to Saudi Arabia's interpretation of sharia: "houdoud", or serious crimes that carry a prescribed punishment, including terrorism, and "qisas", or retribution, usually for murder.
In a communication to the United Nations published on 8 April, Saudi authorities confirmed that the royal decree only applies to cases of "ta'zeer".
The Saudi government media office did not respond to a request for comment on the case.
By Reprieve's count, 10 people are currently at risk of execution in the kingdom: seven were convicted of houdoud offences and one of a qisas offense. Only two of them would be covered by the royal decree's protections.
"When eight out of 10 people facing the death penalty for childhood crimes remain at risk of execution, it's hard to see how anything has changed, despite all the promises of progress and reform," Reprieve Director Maya Foa said.

Saudi Arabia, for years one of the world's most prolific executioners, dramatically reduced the number of people put to death last year, following changes halting executions for non-violent drug-related crimes, according to the government’s tally and independent observers.
The Saudi government’s Human Rights Commission said on 18 January it documented 27 executions in 2020. That's compared to an all-time high of 184 executions the year before as documented by Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch. The change represents an 85% reduction in the number of people put to death last year, compared to 2019.
"The sharp decrease was brought about in part by a moratorium on death penalties for drug-related offences," the Saudi rights commission said.
When asked by The Associated Press, the commission said the new law ordering a stop to such executions came into effect sometime last year. The new directive for judges does not appear to have been published publicly and it was not immediately clear whether the law was changed by royal decree, as is typically the case.
The AP previously reported that Saudi Arabia last year also ordered an end to the death penalty for crimes committed by minors and ordered judges to end the controversial practice of public flogging, replacing it with jail time, fines or community service.
