The Constitution of Paraguay (1992) at Art. 4, "The Right to life," states in part: "The death penalty is abolished."
Paraguay has been abolitionist since 1992, and the last execution dates to 1928.
On December 19, 2016, Paraguay co-sponsored and voted again in favour of the Resolution on a Moratorium on the Use of the Death Penalty at the UN General Assembly.
On 29 September 2017, Paraguay voted again in favour of the Resolution on the Death Penalty at the 36° session of the UN Council on Human Rights.
