BANGLADESH: 10 SENTENCED TO DEATH, 5 GET LIFE TERM FOR KILLING UP CHAIRMAN

A Chattogram court on 13 December 2020 sentenced 10 people to death and five others to life imprisonment in the murder case filed over killing Satkania Sonakania union parishad's former chairman Amjad Hossain 22 years ago. Four others accused in the case have been acquitted.
Chattogram Divisional Speedy Trial Tribunal court's Judge AKM Mozammel Haque passed the verdict at 12:30 pm. Plaintiff's lawyer SUM Nurul Islam confirmed the matter.
On 3 October 1999, Sonakania Union Parishad Chairman Amjad Hossain was shot dead by miscreants in front of Satkania Mirzarkhil Durbar Sharif.
His wife, Syeda Raushan Akhter, filed a murder case with Satkania Police Station the following day against 20 people.
The case was first investigated by the Satkania police, later handed over to the CID by an order of the Home Ministry.
After a long investigation, the CID police submitted the charge sheet of the murder case on 22 December 2000. The argument, in this case, ended on 11 November this year. On the same day, the court canceled the bail of 10 accused and ordered them to send to jail. One of the 20 accused in the case has died, while the other nine are fugitives.
