BANGLADESH: 8 TO WALK THE GALLOWS FOR KILLING 9-YEAR-OLD GIRL AFTER RAPE IN CHITTAGONG

A Chittagong court on 14 December 2020 sentenced eight people to death in a case for gang-raping and killing a nine-year old girl in Chittagong.
The verdict was delivered by Judge Jamiul Haider of Women and Children Prevention Tribunal-4.
State counsel M A Naser said that the court sentenced all the eight accused to death and fined them Tk1 lakh each in connection with the case.
The death sentence convicts are Belal Hossain alias Bijoy, Rabiul Islam alias Rubel, Hasibul Islam alias Liton, Aksan Mia alias Hasan, Md Sujon, Md Mehraj alias Tutul, Monirul Islam Monu, and Shahadat Hossain Saikat.
Of them, Shahadat Hossain Saikat is on the run.
On 21 January 2018, the girl named Fatema Akhter Mim went missing after going to a playground at Bishwa Colony under Akbarshah police station in the city.
The police recovered the body from the stairs of a six-storied building beside the playground. The girl was gang-raped and strangled to death inside the building.
Later, the girl’s mother lodged a murder and rape case with Akbarshah police station in this connection.
