CHINA. FIVE SENTENCED TO DEATH FOR ABDUCTING AND SELLING CHILDREN

In China, every year, thousand of children are victims of kidnapping

07 June 2005 :

five people were sentenced to death  being convicted of abducting and selling 19 young boys. Li Bifang, Jiang Chengpu, Yuan Guiyuan and Liu Weibing received death sentences for abducting boys aged between two and six by the Kunming Intermediate People's Court. The defendants were executed immediately after the pronouncement by the court. Another gang member, Liu Weihong, was given a two-year suspended death sentence while three others convicted of assisting the abductions were sentenced to eight to 13 years in jail.
The children were abducted from Fuhai town, Kunming city in southwestern China's Yunnan province and sold in Puning city in the southern province of Guangdong between August 2003 and June 2004.
All children have since been traced and returned to their parents.
