CUBA. DISSIDENTS ASK FOR AMNESTY FOR POLITICAL PRISONERS, MORATORIUM ON EXECUTIONS

22 June 2006 :

dissident groups in Cuba asked Havana to grant a general amnesty to political prisoners and to introduce a legal moratorium on capital executions.
“Cuba has a poor record when it comes to the respect of human rights”, stated the Progressive Arc in Havana.
The declaration coincided with the first session in Geneva of the new UN Human Rights Council, of which Cuba is part.
Cuba’s presence was contested by Cuba’s dissidents and by various international human rights organizations.
