DEATH PENALTY. PRO MORATORIUM CAMPAIGN ON CAPITAL PUNISHMENT AT THE NEW YORK MARATHON

30 October 2007 :

At the New York Marathon on November 4, Olympic champion Stefano Baldini will run with a ribbon to support the Italian initiative to halt global executions.
Tour operator EIS has also joined the initiative, together with the other organisers of Marathons in Turin, Venice and Barilla. They will be publicly distributing pro-Moratorium tags to all the other runners and supporters at the event.
They will wear a tag with “Stop the death penalty” written under the logo of Hands Off Cain, the promoter of the pro-Moratorium campaign.
With this gesture, Baldini, the main Italian personality competing in the New York Marathon, aims to give strength to the Italian Government and EU’s initiative. Together with a global coalition of abolitionist countries from all continents, next week they are presenting a resolution to the UN General Assembly so that a Universal Moratorium on capital punishment can be proclaimed. If successful, it will be of great historic significance, for our country and for all of humanity.
