USA - Alabama. Gregory Renard Wynn resentenced to life in prison without parole

01 March 2020 :

Gregory Renard Wynn, 39, Black, resentenced to life in prison without parole. Wynn was originally sentenced to death in 1999 by then- Calhoun County Judge Samuel Monk after a jury unanimously recommended that sentence. Wynn was sentenced in the killing of restaurant manager Denise Bliss, 33, in April 1998. Wynn had worked at the same Hardee’s location and was 17 at the time of the slaying. Following decisions by the United States Supreme Court holding that the death penalty and mandatory life without parole sentences for juveniles is unconstitutional, Wynn returned to the Calhoun County Circuit Court earlier this month for a sentencing hearing to determine whether he should be sentenced to life in prison, either with or without the possibility of parole. After a 3-day hearing, Circuit Judge Brian Howell sentenced Wynn to life without the possibility of parole on Thursday.
