USA - Louisiana. The House Justice Committee rejected House Bill 162 to abolish death penalty

12 April 2018 :

The House Administration of Criminal Justice Committee rejected 10-8 House Bill 162 to abolish death penalty in Louisiana. Rep. Terry Landry, a Democrat and former Louisiana State Police superintendent authored HB162. The failure of Landry’s bill comes a day after a similar bill sponsored by Democratic Sen. J.P. Morrell passed a Senate committee. Morrell said he most likely won’t pursue his bill because of today’s vote in the House committee. 72 inmates remain on death row at the Louisiana State Penitentiary at Angola.
