IRAN: ANOTHER WOMEN SENTENCED TO DEATH FOR ADULTERY IN TEHRAN
December 19, 2017: A woman was sentenced to death for adultery by the 1st Branch of the Alborz Penal Court in Alborz Province. It is the second death sentence issued for women by Iran’s judiciary. The woman, who was confronted with undeniable documentation and could not defend herself, accepted the charges. The Judges condemned the young woman to death for adultery after reviewing her case on December 19, 2017, according to the state-run Fararu website. Just a few days prior to this case a 23-year-old woman, being the mother of a four-year-old child, was also sentenced to death. The woman named Mojgan is charged with murdering her husband two years ago in July 2015 when she was 21. According to the state-run media the court first exonerated her from the charge of premeditated murder and then sentenced her to pay blood money for committing non-deliberate murder. The Supreme Court, however, did not uphold the verdict and ultimately sentenced her to death. (Source: IranHRM, 22/12/2017)
