YEMEN: THE HOUTHIS HAVE SENTENCED 350 OF THEIR OPPONENTS TO DEATH

Iran-backed Houthi rebels in Yemen have issued 350 death sentences since seizing power in a 2014 coup.
This was announced by the Minister of Information, Culture and Tourism of the Yemeni government Muammar al-Iryani to the official news agency SABA.
“Since the coup, the Houthis have issued death sentences for 350 individuals with opposition views, including soldiers, activists, journalists and politicians,” he noted.
The minister pointed out that the Houthis have used the judicial system as an ugly mechanism to terrorize their opponents and settle scores with their political opponents, stressing that some of the death sentences have already been carried out.
Earlier this week, Yemen’s Ministry of Human Rights and Legal Affairs announced that the Houthi Criminal Court had approved the execution of 6 people convicted of ethnic hatred and involvement in terrorist acts in Sana’a province.
The Houthis have yet to comment on the Yemeni minister’s statement.
The Iranian-backed Houthis have controlled the capital Sanaa and some regions in Yemen since September 2014.
Arab coalition forces led by Saudi Arabia have been supporting the Yemeni government in the fight against the Houthis since March 2015.
