Six terrorists who had been awarded capital punishment on charge of involvement in subversive activities were executed in Pul-e-Charkhi prison of Kabul, a Presidential Palace’s statemen said. The statement added that President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani signed the execution orders, following repeated demands by the families of the victims of terrorist attacks.The execution of militants follows over a week after President Ghani received a list of militants sentenced to death. The list was asked by President Ghani following a deadly attack on VIP protection unit in capital Kabul in April leaving at least 64 dead and 347 others wounded. The Taliban group claimed responsibility behind the attack.
According to a source, the terrorists executed were on death row for various attacks, including the attack on Finest supermarket in Kabul in 2010; the assassination of Berhanuddin Rabbani, the head of the high peace council, in 2011; an attack in Qargha in 2012; the assassination of Abdullah Laghmani, deputy head of the national directorate of security (NDS) in 2009; an attack on an army hospital in 2011 and a bombing in Paktia in 2009.
