16 May 2019 :
Two of seven men who were caught smuggling 68 kilograms of Hashish to Bahrain from Iran were sentenced to death by the Supreme Court of Appeals on 13 May 2019.
While two suspects were given the capital punishment, one was given lifetime imprisonment, three men were given a one-year jail term, and another one to six months in prison, Chief Prosecutor Adnan Al Weda’ee confirmed to News of Bahrain.
The two suspects who were given the death penalty were also asked to pay a fine of BHD 10,000 or approximately AED 98,000 each.
Authorities were able to arrest the suspects after the Interior Ministry Anti-Narcotics Department received a tip saying, “large quantities of narcotic substances will be entering Bahraini waters with the help of an Iranian supplier”.
