BANGLADESH: 3 SENTENCED TO DEATH IN MIRPUR BANGLA COLLEGE MURDER CASE

A Dhaka special court on November 19, 2024 sentenced three people to death in a case lodged over the abduction and murder of Mirpur Bangla College student Nurul Amin in 2022.
The convicts are Md Ariful Islam, Md Imran Hossain and Md Yamin Mollah.
Judge Masud Karim of Dhaka Speedy Trial Tribunal 3 pronounced the judgment in the presence of Ariful and Imran.
Yamin, who is at large after coming out of jail on bail, was tried in absentia.
The court also issued an arrest warrant for him.
On January 2, 2022, Nurul Amin Topu went missing, prompting his uncle to file a general diary at Darus Salam police station.
Shortly after, the abductors contacted the family, demanding a ransom of Tk1 crore for his release.
Acting on the case, the Detective Branch (DB) detained three suspects on January 4 of that year.
During primary interrogation, the three confessed to abducting and later murdering Topu at Imran's house in the Mirpur Beribadh area.
They subsequently provided confessional statements in court, admitting their involvement in the crime.
