27 February 2015 :
A criminal court has sentenced Sinai Islamist militant Adel Habara and seven other jihadists to death on charges of “embracing jihadist ideologies and contacting members from Islamic State.”The verdict has been referred to Egypt’s grand mufti for approval, a routine procedure in capital punishment cases.
Last December, another criminal court confirmed another death sentence for Habara and six others, after it was approved by the grand mufti, in another case in which they were charged with killing policemen in an ambush in August 2013.
Up to 25 policemen were reportedly killed in the attack.
Habara is also accused of involvement in another major attack in Rafah against the Egyptian army in August 2012, which left 16 soldiers killed.
The Islamist militant was arrested in August 2013 in the North Sinai town of El-Arish.
