FLORIDA (USA): JOSE ANTONIO JIMENEZ EXECUTED

14 December 2018 :

Jose Antonio Jimenez, 55, Hispanic, was executed on 13 December 2018.
Jimenez was sentenced to death in December 1994 with a 10-2 vote of a Miami Dade jury in the October 1992 killing of a 63-year-old woman, Phyliss Minas, in her North Miami home.
A fingerprint lifted from inside the apartment matched Jimenez's prints.
He was arrested three days later. Jimenez, a former house painter with a history of crack-cocaine addiction, was also convicted of the 1990 murder of a woman on Miami Beach. He was sentenced to 17 years in prison for that killing. Jimenez was pronounced dead at 9:48 p.m.
The execution, originally set for 6 p.m., was delayed by a last-minute request to the U.S. Supreme Court to stay the execution. The court declined. “The execution took place without incident,” said Florida corrections spokeswoman Michelle Glady.
Jimenez was the fifth killer executed since Florida changed how it administers lethal injections, a process that critics say may be cruel and unusual punishment. In 2017, the state added a drug called etomidate — intended to induce unconsciousness — to the lethal cocktail administered to inmates during execution.
Jimenez was the 2nd person executed in Florida this year, the 97th person since Florida resumed executions in 1979. Jimenez was the 25th person executed this year in the U.S., and the 1,490th in the United States since 1977.
