27 June 2026 :
June 26, 2026 - France. 9th World Congress Against the Death Penalty
France will host the 9th World Congress Against the Death Penalty from 30 June to 2 July 2026. Organized by the French non-governmental organization ‘Ensemble contre la Peine de Mort – Together Against the Death Penalty’, the World Congress is a key event for the global abolitionist movement, thanks to the cooperation of political, institutional, judicial and civil society actors.
Open to the public, the Congress will take place in Paris at the Maison de la Radio et de la Musique (30 June and 1 July) and the Hôtel de Lassay (2 July). It will include numerous working sessions on specific topics and is open to everyone who wishes to join the effort to universally abolish the death penalty, particularly young people.
A special tribute will be paid to Robert Badinter, whose tireless fight led to the adoption of the act abolishing the death penalty in France, of which we are celebrating the 45th anniversary this year. Robert Badinter was a leading figure in the abolitionist movement and the organization of the annual World Congresses, the first of which was held in Strasbourg in 2001.
You can consult the full programme and register for the Congress via the ECPM – 9th World Congress web application.
France remains at the forefront of the fight for universal abolition, and remains committed, with its European partners, to working alongside international organizations and civil society organizations that campaign for the values of the abolitionist community.
