Sergio D’Elia, Secretary of Hands off Cain-Spes contra Spem, has reassessed the following statement on the story of Raffaele Cutolo, who has been denied Medical furlough because of coronavirus.
"The story of Raffaele Cutolo, a man of almost 80 years old, whose life is divided into equal parts, one in freedom, one in normal prison, one in harsh prison, is the figure of the degradation of a country passed from being the" cradle of law” to be the "grave of law”. "After half a century of history, whether that of a state or that of an enemy of the state, it would always be time to turn the page. In the last 50 years the Italian state has lived only in states of emergency, in which only power emerged, the disorder made up of regimes, laws, processes and special prisons. And there is no solution of continuity on the horizon. In the last 50 years, Cutolo, as an "executioner" he was, risks to be "executed".
In fact, he risks dying in the hands of a state that has abolished the death penalty, but intends to continue to practice death for punishment and punishment until death. Our saying "Hands off Cain" is addressed to this State, to a Power that risks degrading in the aberrant logic for which, in the name of Abel, he becomes Cain himself. We are the most staunch defenders of a state that has the connotations of the rule of law. For this reason we say: Hands off Cain! Instead we distrust the ostentation of pain, and who makes the victim by profession, who says he is on Abel's side, when he is not the victim and abusively exercises this role.
