23 September 2021 :
Abed Khodaverdi and Arshad Jodat executed in Zanjan Central Prison on September 21.
According to information obtained by Iran Human Rights, two men were executed on drug-related charges in Zanjan Central Prison on September 21. Their identities have been established as 40-year-old Abed Khodaverdi and Urmia-native, Arshad Jodat.
An informed source told IHR: “Abed Khodaverdi was around 40 years old and was detained and sentenced to death on drug-related charges around four years ago. Arshad Jodat had also been behind bars for drug-related charges for around four years.”
At the time of writing, neither of their executions have been reported by media in Iran.
Another NGO, KHRN (see HoC 21/09/2021), reports, on the same date and in the same prison, and always for drug offenses, the execution of a Kurd named Arshad Javdat Rabat (Javdatian), a native of Orumiyeh. Orumiyeh is another way of transliterating Urmia. When translating news from the Farsi language, which has a different alphabet from the Latin one, it sometimes happens that the sources arrive at significantly different results: Arshad Jodat and Arshad Javdat Rabat (Javdatian) could be the same person.
