December 1, 2024 - IRAN. At least 126 prisoners were executed in prisons of the Islamic Republic of Iran during November 2024, marking a 22% decrease compared to October, when 161 executions were recorded. Notably, 20% of those executed were Kurds.
Hengaw has confirmed the identities of 124 executed prisoners, while the identities of 2 additional individuals, who are women, are still under investigation.
The executions in November included at least 25 Kurdish prisoners, 17 Turkish prisoners, 15 Baloch prisoners, 6 Lur prisoners, 8 Gilak prisoners, and at least ten Afghan nationals.
Last month, the death sentences of two juvenile offenders, Arvin Ghahremani and Esmaeil Barakzai were carried out. Arvin had been arrested at the age of 18, while Esmaeil was arrested at 17, both convicted of murder.
Three women were executed during November in the prisons of Rasht, Khorramabad, and Ghezel Hesar (Karaj), all convicted of murder.
Of the 126 executions in November, only two cases were officially reported by state-affiliated media. Additionally, five executions were carried out secretly, without notifying the families or allowing the final visit.
Classification by charges: Drug-related crimes: 62 cases (50% of total executions); Murder: 60 cases; Rape: 4 cases.
Separation of execution of death sentences according to provinces: Alborz Province: 26 cases; Fars Province: 10 cases; East Azerbaijan Province: 10 cases; Isfahan Province: 9 cases; Gilan Province: 8 cases; Hamedan and Kerman Provinces: 7 cases each; Golestan and Razavi Khorasan Provinces: 5 cases each; Sistan-Baluchestan, West Azerbaijan (Urmia), and Zanjan Provinces: 4 cases each; Yazd, Lorestan, Qazvin, and Qom Provinces: 3 cases each; Kermanshah, North Khorasan, and South Khorasan Provinces: 2 cases each; Kurdistan (Sanandaj), Markazi, Mazandaran, Hormozgan, Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad, Khuzestan, Ardabil, and Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari Provinces: 1 case each.
