IRAN. FIVE HANGED ON DRUGS CHARGES

Iran hanged five men for drug trafficking, local media reported, the latest in a growing number of executions in the Islamic republic that officials say are aimed at improving public security.
The Fars news agency reported that five men, who were not identified, were sent to the gallows in the eastern city of Birjand for carrying and distributing narcotics weighing around 146 kilos. The report did not say whether they were hanged in prison or in public.
