On 10 September 2020 HoC had published the news, taken from IHR, that «Khezr Ghavidel (also Qavidel) had been hanged in Urmia prison on 10 September. The man, of Kurdish ethnicity, originally from the village of Herman, was arrested 7 years ago in Urmia and accused of carrying methamphetamine". At the time, IHR reported that Ghavidel had been executed despite the sentence not being final. Today it is learned that the Supreme Court has acquitted him. The Rudaw news agency (focused on Kurdish issues) published a short interview with a close relative of Ghavidel, who asked not to be identified. “Two weeks ago, a letter arrived to the brothers of Khedir Qavidel, who have always followed the case disputing its many irregularities. In the letter, the Urmia prosecutor's office informed them that the death sentence had not been confirmed by the supreme court, and therefore their relative could be released from prison. However, noting that the man had already been executed, the office said it was willing to accept a request for financial compensation".
The brothers said they are not interested in compensation, but want to file a complaint so that the many and serious irregularities that have characterized the whole process, up to the execution, are investigated.
