20 December 2005 :
an Iranian national, only identified as Morteza, escaped the noose after winning the forgiveness of relatives of his victim. He had been found guilty of murdering his 75-year-old aunt in a robbery in 2002. The governmental Iran newspaper said he was forgiven whilst stepping up to be hanged at Evin prison.(Sources: Agence France Presse, 19/12/2005)
