May 21, 2025 - IRAN. Mohammadreza Beiki Firoozabadi executed on May 21
In unspecified prison, Yazd probably.
The execution of Mohammadreza Beiki Firoozabadi was carried out despite a formal directive from the Supreme Court of the Islamic Republic of Iran to suspend the sentence pending a retrial.
According to information received by Hengaw, the 55-year-old Yazd resident was executed by prison authorities alongside four other inmates convicted of murder. This action was taken in direct defiance of a Supreme Court ruling that had accepted Beiki Firoozabadi’s request for a retrial and explicitly ordered a stay of execution.
A source familiar with the case reported that Beiki Firoozabadi was transferred to solitary confinement on May 19, 2025, in preparation for the execution. Upon learning of the transfer, his family contacted the Supreme Court and obtained an official letter confirming the suspension of the sentence.
Nevertheless, the execution was carried out at dawn on May 21, just hours after the Supreme Court had referred the case to a parallel judicial branch for renewed review.
Beiki Firoozabadi had been arrested five years ago on drug-related charges and was sentenced to death by Branch 1 of the Revolutionary Court in Yazd.
The state-affiliated media outlets had not reported on the execution.
