May 15, 2024 - IRAN. Razieh, a woman, executed in Mashhad on May 15
According to a report received by Hengaw, at dawn on Wednesday, May 15, 2024, the execution sentence of a female prisoner named Razieh (unidentified surname) was carried out in the central prison of Mashhad (Vakilabad Prison).
As indicated by some sources, this 33-year-old woman was arrested in February 2017 on charges of murdering her two children in 2026. She suffocated the children, aged four and eight, because she could not feed them. Then, she cut her own wrist to take her own life, but she was saved by her sister.
According to the Entekhab news agency, after separating from her first husband, Razieh had taken custody of her children. She remarried to a 62-year-old man, from whom she was also eventually separated. Following her separation from her drug-addicted husband, this prisoner murdered her children due to what she described as "poverty and economic instability."
Reportedly, after her second divorce, the living conditions imposed severe psychological pressure on her, ultimately leading her to commit the murders.
According to the information compiled by the Women’s Committee of the National Council of Resistance of Iran, Razieh is the seventh woman executed in 2024. With the execution of Razieh, the number of women executed in Iran since 2007, the number of women executed reaches 237.
