Mokarrameh Ebrahimi, the woman who was sentenced to stoning to death for adultery and at the centre of an international battle after last July her lover was stoned to death, has been released. The woman, who has been in prison for 11 years, has left the prison of Qavzin in the north-west of the Islamic Republic, together with her 4-year-old son born from her relation with Jafar Kiani.
The release was ordered by the judicial commission for amnesty, the woman's lawyer Shadi Sadr reported, underlining that it is a "rare decision" of mercy for Iran.
Mokarrameh has returned to her family and "still can't believe that she's been pardoned" her lawyer explained.
