A 49-year-old man on 14 February 2020 was sentenced to death by the High Court in Tawau for drug trafficking.
High Court judge Dr Hj Alwi Hj Abdul Wahab sentenced Low Teak Seng to death after finding the accused guilty for trafficking 2599.2 grammes of Methamphetamine under Section 39B(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drug Act 1952 (Act 234) and punishable under Section 39B(2) of the same Act which carries the death sentence.
The accused was charged with committing the offence at Tawau Airport’s police station about 10.50am on 17 February 2017.
Low’s trial commenced on 23 July 2019 with nine witnesses called by the deputy public prosecutor and the accused himself as the defence witness.
When Low was produced in court on 14 February for decision, Alwi said he found that the prosecution had proven the case beyond reasonable doubt, therefore, convicted the accused guilty and sentenced him to death by hanging.
Public prosecutor Risal Abd Fikkah stood in for DPP Mark Netto while the accused was represented by assigned counsel Andy Tay.
