A 22-year-old man, David Idah, was sentenced to death by hanging for killing a retired chief magistrate in Ogun State, Mrs. Olufunmilayo Timeyin.Justice Abiodun Akinyemi of an Ogun State High Court sitting in Isabo, Abeokuta, delivered the judgment.
Idah, who hails from Benue State, had on March 28, 2014 killed the 65-year-old Timeyin, using a machete to slaughter his victim.
The offence was committed at block 11, Flat 6 at Laderin Housing Estate, Abeokuta, where the retired chief magistrate resided.
Before the tragic incident, the accused was sacked by the retired chief magistrate over theft of her jewellery, mobile phones and electronics.
Idah was apprehended by residents shortly after committing the crime and later handed over to the police.
He was subsequently arraigned on April 4, 2014 by the police, which said the offence was contrary to section 316 and punishable under section 319 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ogun State of Nigeria, 2008.
