Eleven death row prisoners were hanged for murder in Lahore, Faisalabad, Multan, Sargodha, Jhelum, Machh, Gujranwala, Sahiwal and Toba Tek Singh, raising the total number of executions to at least 122 since Pakistan reversed the self-imposed moratorium on the death penalty in December 2014 after the Taliban school massacre.
Two convicted murderers breathed their last in Lahore’s Kot Lakhpat jail. Shakeel had killed a man in 1998, while Sher Ali was handed the death sentence for the murder of two persons during a firing incident in 2001.
Another two convicts were executed at the Central Jail in Faisalabad. Iftikhar Ahmed had killed three people including two brothers as a result of firing over an argument in 2001, while convict Asif Zeb had killed a person in enmity in 1998.
In the Central Jail of Multan, Rana Faryad was executed after being convicted of murdering his cousin over a minor argument.
Amjad Ali was hanged in Sargodha’s District Jail, after being found guilty of rape and murder of his young niece, as well as killing two young witnesses of the incident in 2005.
Death row prisoner Mohammad Afzal was sent to the gallows in the District Jail of Jhelum for killing a spy agency officer in 2003.
In the Central Jail of Machh, Muhammed Ibrahim was hanged after being convicted of murdering Nawabzada Safdar Jogezai in 2003.
Mohammad Nawaz was executed in Gujranwala’s Central Jail for killing a youth in 1999.
In Sahiwal’s District Jail, Ishaq was executed for killing a man in 1994.
Prisoner Anwar Ahmed was sent to gallows in the District Jail of Toba Tek Singh for killing his father, brother and four nephews over a property matter.
