Okara court of additional session judge (ASJ) on March 27, 2025 handed down capital punishment to a man, along with Rs0.5 million fine, in a murder case, besides seven-year jail term under Arms Ordinance, with 20,000 fine, in the same case.
As per prosecution, the convict, Muhammad Afzal, shot a young man, Ghulam Abbas (28) dead following a motorcycle collision in Okara city in June, 2024.
The police registered a murder case (FIR No 2406/2024) under section 302 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) against him and submitted the case challan in the court of ASJ Waqar Sultani.
On the conclusion of trial proceedings, the court sentenced Afzal, a resident of Seth Colony, Okara, to death and imposed a Rs500,000 fine on him, to be paid as compensation to the heirs of the victim. The judge ordered that in case of default, the convict will undergo an additional simple imprisonment for six months.
The convict was also handed down seven-year simple imprisonment, along with Rs20,000 fine under section 13(2)(a) of the Arms Ordinance 2015. The judge ordered that in case of default, the convict will have to serve an additional two-month jail term.
