The Supreme Court rejected the review petition of Punjab government and acquitted all seven death row convicts in case of Iranian consulate attack in Multan.The Punjab government had appealed to the apex court to review its decision regarding the acquitting seven death row convicts in the attack on Iranian consulate in Multan 20 years ago.
A three members bench headed by Justice Asif Saeed, rejected the review petition and maintained the previous decision.
Anti- terrorism court had sentenced to death seven accused including Malik Ishaq of Lashkar-e-Jhangvi for eight times for their alleged involvement in attack on Iranian consulate in Multan 20 years ago.
The Lahore High Court had rejected the appeals of convicted and maintained the decision of ATC.
After rejecting their appeals in LHC, the convicted men had challenged the ATC decision in the apex court. The Supreme Court had acquitted them on the bases of lack of proofs and evidence.
Following the apex court decision, the Punjab government had submitted a review petition in the court.
