PAKISTAN: WOMAN GETS DEATH SENTENCE FOR KILLING COUSIN OVER PROPERTY ISSUE

Rawalpindi female additional district and sessions judge (ADSJ) on May 10, 2025 handed down death sentence to a 22-year-old woman for killing her paternal cousin over property and marriage issues.
ADSJ Farhat Jabeen convicted Rehana Batool for killing her 33-year-old cousin Lajpal Hussain Shah over the issue of marriage and property.
The judge sentenced Rehana to death and acquitted three other accused in the case.
The judge in her order said that the convicted woman be hanged till death after getting confirmation from the Lahore High Court. The court also ordered the convict to pay Rs500,000 as compensation to the legal heirs of the deceased. In case of non-payment, the convict had to undergo six months of imprisonment.
The court however, acquitted Rehana’s father, mother and sister in the case. According to the available details of the case, Syed Iqrar Haider Shah lodged the FIR with Kotli Sattian police on March 23, 2024 that Rehan along with his sister Mehnaz entered his house and Rehana shot dead Lajpal with 30 bore pistol targeting him multiple times.
The complainant said that his brother died on the spot and the two women escaped from the scene with the pistol. He said that the motive behind the murder was the issues of property and marriage. He had alleged that his uncle Saghir Hussain Shah, father of Rehana, and Mazloom Bibi, mother of Rehana, instigated their daughters to kill Lajpal.
