The Special Criminal Court in Riyadh sentenced to death two men convicted of taking part in rioting in Al-Awamiyah town in Qatif. A third defendant was given 12 years in jail.The men were charged with several crimes, including the killing of security officials and attacking a police station. They were also accused of making bombs, throwing Molotov cocktails at security officers, triggering an explosion by firing at a cooking gas cylinder at a location close to the Al-Awamiyah police station and burning a patrol vehicle.
The court sent another suspect to jail for a period of 25 years for his involvement in planning an attack on the police station on Tarout Island, also in Qatif governorate.
Meanwhile, the court sentenced leaders of a terror cell based in the Kingdom and Qatar to a total of 55 years in prison.
The Saudi leader of the 41-member cell was given 25 years in prison while the Qatari was awarded 30 years in jail. The cell included 38 Saudis, a Qatari, a Yemeni and an Afghan.
