The Criminal Session of the High Court of Sierra Leone held in Port Loko presided by the Justice Samuel O. Taylor has sentenced three convicted persons to death by hanging and one given 40 years imprisonment, theorganiser.net reported on 9 March 2020.
The Public Relations Officer Moses Lamin Kamara said Mohamed Kajali Kanu, Mustapha Koroma and Momoh Kamara were charged for murder contrary to the law of Sierra Leone.
Reports say Kajali and Mustapha were convicted for the killing of Kelboy Kabia and for Momoh, he was sentenced for the murder of his half-brother Mohamed Kamara. The convicts according to law and as pronounced by the Justice Samuel O. Taylor will be executed by hanging as and when it pleases the President of the Republic.
PRO Lamin Kamara said, Santigie Conteh who was initially charged with murder for unlawfully killed Momoh Conteh a Bike Rider, was reduced to manslaughter. He was convicted and sentenced to 40 years imprisonment.
Also, the PRO added that 17 others were convicted for various offences including but not limited to sexual penetration of a child, wounding with intention, rape, housebreaking and larceny etc.
Residents in Port Loko thanked the Chief Justice for what they described as a fair and expeditious justice. They said, the last criminal session has helped in the reduction of crimes in their township and this they believed "will give them sound night sleep".
