Two Somali officials were executed on 18 February 2023 by firing squad in the nation’s capital of Mogadishu.
“Today, 18 February 2023, the military court executed Hassan Juule Shakir of a local government officer, Khasim Duale Abdi of the local government officer,” the court statement reads in part.
Abdi was found guilty of killing Abukar Mohamed Sheikh Nourani (Abirimo) while Shakir was found guilty of killing Ali Taliye Arif, in Hamarweyne and Bal’ad town respectively.
Abukar Mohamed Sheikh Nurani (Abirimo), who had a small business in Hamarweyne District of Banadir Region, was shot dead after a dispute over a tax amounting 5,000 Sh.so.
Hassan Juulle Shakir killed Ali Taliye Arif who was driving a Tuk-Tuk motorcycle.
Shakir and Abdi were convicted of civilian shooting on 10 January 2023.
The soldiers were shot dead by the military court in a clear warning to the forces that are causing harm to the people they are trained to defend them and ensure their safety.
