The Islamic State, which has established its 'caliphate' in large parts of Syria and Iraq, continues to escalate its strict and rigorous interpretation of Islamic law, including the death penalty for criminals and "sinners".
Last week, the courts in the town of Al Bab, in the northern province of Aleppo, sentenced to death two civil servants who had been accused of financial fraud. The two were killed, their bodies then crucified and left hanging in the town square.
