TANZANIA: TRIO SENTENCED TO DEATH IN KAGERA DURING 2024

Three people have been sentenced to death by hanging in Kagera region, Tanzania, during 2024 after they were convicted of murder.
Kagera Regional Police Commander, Senior Assistant Commissioner of Police (SACP) Blasius Chatanda told reporters in a press briefing at his office that a total of 977 cases were filed in court while 447 were completed and the accused were sentenced to prison terms.
Giving a breakdown on crimes recorded during 2024, he said ten murder cases were filed in court while three accused persons were sentenced to death by hanging while seven others are serving jail sentences.
ACP Chatanda explained that 22 cases related to rape were filed in court while six accused were sentenced to life imprisonment and 16 others will serve 30 years in jail.
According to him, eight persons who were accused of sodomizing minors were sentenced to life imprisonment, ten others were sentenced to ten years while one person will serve 20 years’ imprisonment.
Other offenses include armed robbery with two persons sentenced to 30 years imprisonment, one person was sentenced to 20 years imprisonment for unlawful possession of firearms while six persons who were accused of cattle rustling were sentenced between five-15 years.
