UAE: PEOPLE CONVICTED OF TERRORISM COULD FACE DEATH PENALTY UNDER FNC LAW PROPOSAL

23 July 2014 :

People convicted of terrorism in the UAE could face the death penalty under new legislation being considered by authorities.
A new anti-terrorism law is to be brought in to combat activities in the country and the region.
In a special session on Monday (July 21) night, members of the Federal National Council (FNC) revised and discussed the draft legislation. The law, which was sent to the FNC by the cabinet in June, outlines some of the penalties for people convicted of terror activities.
According to the new legislation, a person convicted of attacking or endangering the life of the President, Vice President or any of the Rulers of the Emirates and their families could face a death sentence.
The law also allows for a death penalty or life in prison for a person convicted of starting, running or managing a secret organisation.
