March 10, 2025 - Florida. A judge followed a jury's recommendation that Eriese Tisdale be put to death

For a 2nd time, Eriese Tisdale, 37, Black, was sentenced to death for gunning down Sgt. Gary Morales, 35, on Feb. 28, 2013
In imposing the sentence on March 10, Circuit Judge Lawrence Mirman followed the September 18 jury’s recommendation.
On Sept. 17, a jury voted 9 to 3 in favor of Tisdale’s execution.
In 2016, Tisdale was sentenced to death after a jury voted 9-3 in favor of it, but his sentence was overturned on appeal.
Tisdale was housed on Florida’s death row until 2018 when the Florida Supreme Court ruled he must receive a new penalty phase proceeding because of changes in the law that at the time required a jury to vote unanimously in favor of death before a judge could impose the sentence.
Now, for a Florida judge to impose the death penalty, the sentence must be recommended by a supermajority, or at least an 8-to- 4 vote by jurors.
Tisdale’s sentence will automatically be appealed to the Florida Supreme Court.
