January 30, 2026 - Missouri. Jury recommends death penalty for Kenneth Lee Simpson

For murder of police officer

A Franklin County jury has recommended the death penalty for a man found guilty in the murder of Sgt. Mason Griffith.
The jury found Simpson guilty of 1st-degree murder, and it made the sentencing recommendation January 30, according to a news release from Missouri Attorney General Catherine Hanaway’s Office. Judge Craig Hellmann will issue a sentence at a later date.
Simpson was arrested and charged with nine felonies following the shooting of Griffith and officer Adam Sullentrup at a gas station in Hermann in March 2023. Griffith was killed in the shooting, and Sullentrup was injured and spent over 7 months in a Colorado rehabilitation hospital.
