August 20, 2025 - Pennsylvania. Paul Kendrick sentenced to death

In March, a Somerset County jury convicted Kendrick of 1st-degree murder in the brutal 2018 attack on Sgt. Mark Baserman, a corrections officer at SCI Somerset, the prison where Kendrick had been serving a life sentence for a 2014 homicide in Pittsburgh.

The state police affidavit said at the time that the attack began with Kendrick striking Baserman in the face, then punching him in the head about 10 times and kicking him in the head, leaving Baserman unresponsive.

On April 10 the jury formally recommended the death penalty for Kendrick.

On August 20, Judge Patrick Kiniry officially sentenced Kendrick to death row, along with two consecutive life sentences.
