DECEMBER 4, 2024 - Texas. Jason Alan Thornburg, 44, White, sentenced to death.
A Tarrant County jury sentenced him for killing and dismembering 3 men: David Lueras, Lauren Phillips and Maricruz Mathis in September 2021.
Thornburg, a former street preacher who investigators say used his faith to first befriend his victims before luring them into his Euless motel room.
Over a few days in September 2021, Thornburg guided 3 people into Room 113 of Mid City Inn, where he slit their throats or strangled them. He defiled their bodies, dismembered them and packed the remains into bags and bins before transporting them to Fort Worth to set them on fire in a dumpster.
After the bodies were found and he was charged, Thornburg, 44, was charged in the death of a former roommate whose body was found in a gas explosion in May 2021. He was also suspected of killing an American Indian woman from Gallup, N.M., who went missing in 2017 while on a trip with him.
While his attorneys did not contest whether he carried out the killings, they argued mitigating factors.
