March 26, 2025 - Texas. Senate passes SB 990 to expand death penalty. It now heads to the House.
The Texas Senate on Wednesday passed a bill that would expand Texas' capital murder eligibility.
Senate Bill 990 now heads to the House for a vote there.
As of now, Texas law doesn't allow the death penalty for those convicted of killing children between 10 and 15 years old. SB 990 would eliminate that exemption. SB 990 passed with a vote of 26-5.
