Basra Criminal Court issued a death sentence against a drug dealer on February 25, 2025.
The media center of the Supreme Judicial Council stated in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that "Basra Criminal Court issued a death sentence against a drug dealer for the crime of drug trafficking."
 It added that "the convict was found in possession of one kilogram of methylamphetamine, along with tools used in preparing narcotic substances for the purpose of trafficking and selling them among users."
 The statement continued, "The ruling was issued based on the provisions of Article 27/First of the Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances Law No. 50 of 2017." 

03 February 2025 :

Iraq’s Supreme Judicial Council announced that the Central Criminal Court has sentenced nine Iraqi drug traffickers to death after convicting them of smuggling and distributing illicit substances across the country, Kurdistan24 reported on January 29, 2025.
The council confirmed in an official statement that the security forces seized 186 kilograms of various types of drugs in their possession, including Captagon, methamphetamine, and caffeine, which were intended for distribution.
Based on the available evidence, the court issued capital punishment under Article 27(1) of the Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances Law, and all nine traffickers received death penalty.
Drug-related arrests in Iraq have been rising in recent years. In 2023, 14,000 people were arrested on drug charges, compared to 17,000 in 2022. This increase reflects the growing problem of narcotics trafficking and abuse in the country.
With drug networks exploiting Iraq’s porous borders and ongoing security challenges, authorities have intensified counter-narcotics operations to curb trafficking and dismantle organized criminal syndicates fueling the crisis.

13 February 2025 :

February 12, 2025 - IRAN. Mehdi Shabakhsh Pirsorani and Tayeb Javadi executed in Isfahan on February 12
According to a report received by Hengaw, at dawn on February 12, 2025, Mehdi Shabakhsh Pirsorani, a 40-year-old Baloch from Zahedan, was executed in Isfahan Central Prison (Dastgerd Prison). He had been arrested approximately six years ago on drug-related charges.
At the same time, Tayeb Javadi, a 35-year-old man from Isfahan, was executed in the same facility. He had been sentenced to death three years ago on charges related to drug-crimes. Javadi was married and the father of one child.
As of the time of this report, state-affiliated media have not announced these executions.
