BAHRAIN. MPS DROP DEATH PENALTY FROM ANTI TERROR LAW

14 July 2006 :

MPs dropped the death penalty from all but one clause of Bahrain's proposed anti-terrorism law.
It should only apply if there is loss of life through a terrorist act, they declared. Other clauses originally included the death penalty for terrorist acts in which there was no loss of life. It applied to the perpetrators and those who had funded, supported or conspired with those responsible. However, MPs substituted the death penalty with life imprisonment or heavy jail sentences for the latter clauses.
The amendments were due to be discussed at a forthcoming special parliamentary session.
