A Khagrachhari court sentenced five people to death on 3 December 2020 for plotting to kill a man in Guimara, Khagrachhari.
The verdict was pronounced by District and Sessions Judge Reza Md Alamgir Hasan.
The convicts are Rabeya Begum, wife of the victim Mominul Haque, Saiful Islam, Md Firoz, Abul Kalam and Abul Asad, alias Mithu. All the convicted felons except Abul Asad are in jail.
Khagrachhari Public Prosecutor Bidhan Kanungo said: "Police recovered the body of expatriate Mominul from the jungle of Rabindra Karbari area in Guimara upazila under the district on 5 February 2016."
Rabeya killed her husband with the help of a hired killer, Bidhan said, adding that on 9 September of the same year, police investigated the incident and issued a charge sheet.
A total of 12 state witnesses testified in the case, added the public prosecutor.
