the European Parliament expressed its disappointment with the Libyan Supreme court's decision to uphold the death sentences of six foreign medics. However, several MEP's said they were hopeful that a solution would be found soon. The European Commission President, Jose Manuel Barroso told parliament that every effort will continue to be made to "safeguard the liberty and right to life of each person." In Brussels, the EU Justice Commissioner, Franco Frattini, said his reaction to the ruling was "totally negative" and he warned that it would harm ties with the north African country.Bulgaria has also urged Libya to find a swift solution when its High Judical Council meets. President Georgi Parvanov said Sofia would continue its efforts along with its European partners to reach a final agreement, which will be positive for the nurses.
