FIVE SENTENCED TO DEATH IN SOUTHWEST CHINA GANG TRIAL

09 December 2009 :

five people were sentenced to death after being convicted of drug trafficking, racketeering, fraud and selling counterfeit currency in southwest China. The Intermediate Court of Kunming, capital of Yunnan Province, sentenced Jiang Jiatian, gang leader, his mistress Yang Jufen, Yang's father Yang Guoying, and Xie Mingxiang, to death. Li Wencai, a woman who played a lead role in the gang's drug trafficking, was sentenced to death with a two-year reprieve.
